1Password, the producer of one of the world's most popular password managers, will introduce significant price increases for its basic subscription plans starting in late March 2026. The decision, announced in communications sent to customers and widely discussed in international tech media, concerns annually billed subscriptions. The price of the individual "Individuals" plan will rise from the current $2.99 per month ($35.88 annually) to $3.99 per month ($47.88 annually). This represents an increase of $12 per year, translating to a 33.4% rise. The family "Families" plan, which allows sharing resources with five people, will also increase by the same $12 amount – from $4.99 per month ($59.88 annually) to $5.99 per month ($71.88 annually). In this case, the increase is 20%. The changes will take effect on March 27, 2026. It is important to note that the price increase will not be applied immediately to all subscribers. According to the company's policy, the new rate will only be charged at the time of the next subscription renewal that occurs after this date. Users whose billing cycle ends before March 27 will still pay according to the old price list.

The password manager market, consisting of specialized software for securely storing, generating, and auto-filling credentials, began to grow dynamically in the second decade of the 21st century. While 1Password has grown substantially in value and capability, our pricing has remained largely unchanged for many years.” — The communication indicates that funds obtained from the increase will be allocated to further investments in product development, including new security features, performance improvements, and customer support. The company also reminds users of recently introduced conveniences, such as enhanced tools for protection against phishing, and the ability to store not only passwords but also documents, security keys, or notes in a virtual vault. The decision to raise prices has met with an immediate reaction from the tech industry. Portals like TechRadar, ZDNet, and the Polish Antyweb are drawing users' attention to available alternatives. Among the free or cheaper competitors, Bitwarden is mainly mentioned, which offers a free plan with basic functions for an unlimited number of devices, as well as open-source solutions like KeePass. Media also note that LastPass, 1Password's main rival, has also raised prices in recent years, indicating a trend in the entire market segment.
