The authorities of Wrocław have finalized the takeover of 65 hectares of land in the southern part of the city from the state. The area, located between the Jagodno and Wojszyce housing estates, was transferred free of charge by the National Centre for Agricultural Support. The notarial deed signed on Wednesday concludes a decade of efforts to create a vast forest-park complex, which is to serve as the green lungs of this part of the metropolis and provide recreation for thousands of residents.

Historic land transfer

Wrocław received 65 hectares of land worth 40 million złoty free of charge from the National Centre for Agricultural Support on the border of Jagodno and Wojszyce.

Green lungs of the south

The Southern Green Wedge of Wrocław will be created on the acquired land, becoming one of the largest parks in the city.

Decade of resident efforts

Local councilors and residents of southern districts of Wrocław worked for 10 years to finalize the land takeover.

After ten years of intensive efforts and negotiations, Wrocław has become the owner of strategic land covering 65 hectares. The transfer of the land by the National Centre for Agricultural Support was carried out free of charge, although the market value of the property is estimated at over 40 million złoty. The ceremonial signing of the notarial deed took place on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, with the participation of Mayor Jacek Sutryk and representatives of the government administration. The city has committed to developing this area for recreational purposes within the next decade. The concept of green wedges originates from early 20th-century urban planning and involves leaving undeveloped strips of vegetation that allow fresh air to flow into city centers and protect against the so-called heat island effect. On the acquired land, which currently consists mainly of agricultural wasteland, the Southern Green Wedge of Wrocław will be created. It will be the fourth largest park area in the city, constituting a key element of blue-green infrastructure. The plans include extensive public consultations with residents of the Jagodno and Wojszyce housing estates, so that the final shape of the park meets the real needs of the local community. The project is the result of cooperation between the local government and district councils, whose representatives, such as Piotr Falkowski and Marcin Ogrodnik, have for years advocated for protecting these areas from housing development. The implementation of the investment definitively blocks the possibility of selling these lands for development purposes. Minister Stefan Krajewski emphasized that this is an example of model use of State Treasury assets for social purposes. The transfer is permanent, guaranteeing that southern Wrocław will gain a permanent protective barrier against dense development, while creating space for new tree plantings and walking paths. „We want this vast area to be the green lungs of Wrocław. Together with residents, district councils, and local leaders, we have conducted a series of discussions about its future.” — Jacek Sutryk Status of Land in Southern Wrocław: Ownership: State Treasury (KOWR) → Wrocław Municipality; Designation: Agricultural wasteland → Urban park and forest (Green Wedge); Market value: 40 mln zł → 40 mln zł (free transfer) 65 ha — area of the new urban park
