The official death toll from the devastating Cyclone Gezani in Madagascar and Mozambique has risen to at least 63 people. The most critical situation is in Toamasina, Madagascar's second-largest city, where the storm destroyed key infrastructure, including hospitals and schools. In Mozambique alone, four deaths were recorded, even though the cyclone's eye passed several dozen kilometers off the coast. Efforts to combat the impending humanitarian crisis are ongoing.

Tragic Toll in Madagascar

The deaths of 59 residents have been confirmed in Madagascar, with 15 people still considered missing after the cyclone passed through the city of Toamasina.

Four Fatalities in Mozambique

Despite the storm's eye bypassing the coast, strong winds and heavy rains killed four people in the Mozambican province of Inhambane.

Massive Material Damage

Preliminary estimates indicate damages of around 120 million euros, including the devastated Morafeno University Hospital and numerous schools.

Sanitary Crisis in Toamasina

Thousands of people are sheltering in emergency centers without access to running water and functional medical infrastructure, risking epidemics.
