Context of the land scandal
The case concerns the sale of 160 hectares of land strategic for the construction of the railway line to the CPK for the amount of PLN 22.8 million.
The leadership of Law and Justice has concluded an internal explanatory proceeding regarding Robert Telus's role in the sale of state land for the investment of the Central Communication Port. The party's spokesman, Rafał Bochenek, informed that the analysis found no irregularities on the part of the former agriculture minister, which became the direct reason for revoking his suspension. The MP himself, in conversations with the media, expressed satisfaction with the resolution, noting that he felt innocent from the beginning and that the entire case was the result of a political intrigue by the current ruling coalition. The case, which led to Telus's temporary exclusion from the party ranks, concerned the sale of 160 hectares of land in Zabłotnia to the company Dawtona at the end of the previous cabinet's term. This land, previously managed by the National Support Centre for Agriculture, is of key importance for the construction of the high-speed railway line. Robert Telus revealed that before the formal reinstatement, he held talks with Jarosław Kaczyński, emphasizing the chairman's strictness in verifying the ethical standards of the grouping's members. The statute of Law and Justice provides for the institution of suspension of membership rights as a disciplinary measure applied by the party's chairman in situations raising ethical or legal doubts. The political rhetoric surrounding Telus's reinstatement focuses on refuting allegations of mismanagement. Bochenek described the actions of the prosecutor's office and the government as "an intrigue in the style of Donald Tusk's people," aimed at discrediting the opposition. Meanwhile, Telus, demonstrating party subordination, used strong rhetorical figures in relation to the formation's leader. „Prezes jest takim naszym ojcem. I na pewno trzeba mieć pełen szacunek dla ojca. I oczywiście mam wielki szacunek dla prezesa za to, co robi dla Polski.” (The Chairman is like our father. And you certainly must have full respect for the father. And of course, I have great respect for the Chairman for what he does for Poland.) — Robert Telus It is worth noting that although party discipline has been formally restored, the case of the land in Zabłotnia remains a subject of interest for supervisory bodies. However, Telus declares full readiness to continue parliamentary work and cooperate with the services to ultimately clear his name.
