A shocking incident in the Catalan town of Manlleu claimed the lives of five young people. The fire broke out on Monday evening in a tenant storage room on the top floor of a five-story residential building. The victims, most of whom were minors, were trapped in a room serving as a shelter for local youth. Rescue services also confirmed injuries to four other people who managed to escape the burning building.
The tragic event occurred on Monday around 9:00 PM in the town of Manlleu, located about 80 kilometers north of Barcelona. The fire appeared in a small utility room on the roof of a five-story apartment block on Montseny Street. According to witness accounts and local residents, this space was used by youth as a meeting place and in some cases may have served as makeshift living quarters. The fire department, which arrived after neighbors raised the alarm, extinguished the flames in less than half an hour, but it was too late for those inside. Spain has been grappling for years with the problem of using unsuitable utility spaces, such as trasteros (tenant storage rooms), for residential purposes, due to high rental prices and a shortage of social housing in urbanized regions. The death toll is dramatic: five young people of school age lost their lives, and four others sustained minor injuries. <przypis title=
