The past weekend brought a series of dramatic events across Poland. In Susk Nowy, a tragic collision occurred between a car and a railbus, resulting in two fatalities. In the Opole region, a locomotive derailment paralyzed train traffic, while serious road accidents took place on the A4 motorway and in Rybnik. The fire department also intervened due to flooding caused by rapid snowmelt.

Flood prevention interventions
Snowmelt in the Sławno region led to flooding of buildings and important energy infrastructure.
The most tragic event of the past 24 hours took place in the town of Susk Nowy in Masovia. At a marked level crossing without barriers, a Hyundai passenger car drove directly into an oncoming railbus. As a result of the collision, a 39-year-old woman and her 16-year-old son died at the scene. Services under the supervision of the prosecutor are investigating the causes of this disaster. For years, the majority of accidents at road-rail interfaces in Poland have occurred at category D crossings, which are equipped only with road signs without traffic control devices.„W wyniku wypadku dwie osoby z auta poniosły śmierć na miejscu. Policjanci ustalają przyczyny wypadku pod nadzorem prokuratora.” (As a result of the accident, two people from the car died at the scene. Police officers are determining the causes of the accident under the supervision of the prosecutor.) — Tomasz ŻerańskiSerious problems also affected the railway infrastructure in the Opole Voivodeship. Between Opole and Suchy Bór, an electric locomotive derailed during a technical run. The locomotive left the tracks, damaging the track bed and the overhead line. Although the driver did not suffer serious injuries, train traffic on the route towards Ozimek and Tarnowskie Góry was completely halted. The overhead line required immediate repair by specialized technical services of PKP PLK. The situation on the roads was also critical. On Sunday evening in Rybnik on Chrobrego Street, a massive collision occurred between a BMW and an Opel. Firefighters had to use hydraulic tools to free a 28-year-old driver trapped in the wreckage. A family with a two-year-old child was also involved in the incident. Meanwhile, on the A4 motorway near Opole, a passenger car rolled over, requiring the intervention of a Air Ambulance Service helicopter. An additional complication is local flooding caused by snowmelt, which forced firefighter interventions in places like Bartolin and Sulechów. The history of Polish medical rescue dates back to 1891, when the first volunteer rescue association in Poland and the second in Europe was established in Kraków.2 — people died near Ostrołęka
