March 2026 is becoming a crucial month for millions of benefit recipients in Poland. Alongside the annual indexation, the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) is introducing new income limits for pensioners who work and accelerating the payment of the 13th pension for selected groups. Simultaneously, farmers are preparing for a new direct payments campaign, which starts in mid-month under revised rules concerning eco-schemes and afforestation.

March benefit indexation

Increase in pensions, disability benefits, and the supporting allowance. The widow's pension after the changes can reach a maximum of 5,935 PLN gross.

New income limits for working pensioners

ZUS introduced new income thresholds for persons on early retirement; exceeding them risks a deduction of nearly 1,000 PLN.

Direct payments for farmers 2026

ARiMR begins the application period on March 15. New rules include changes in carbon farming and afforestation payments.

13th pension paid earlier

The first payments of the additional benefit will reach seniors as early as March due to the holiday calendar layout.

The beginning of March 2026 marks a series of significant changes in the Polish social insurance system and agriculture. The most important event is the annual benefit indexation, which has increased not only basic pensions and disability benefits but also widow's pensions and the supporting allowance for persons with disabilities. In the case of the widow's pension, the maximum amount after the March change can reach up to 5,935 PLN, which constitutes significant support for single-person households run by seniors. Simultaneously, the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) has published new income limits for pensioners who have not yet reached the universal retirement age. Exceeding the threshold of 70% of the average monthly wage results in a reduction of the payment by a maximum amount, which from March is around 1,000 PLN. ZUS also announced an acceleration of the 13th pension payments. Due to the calendar layout, persons whose payment date falls on the first of each month will receive the funds still in March, before the Easter holidays. The indexation system for pension and disability benefits in Poland was introduced to protect the real value of money against the effects of inflation, based on the consumer price index increased by the real wage growth. The agricultural sector is also on the verge of major changes. The Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture confirmed that the application period for direct payments for 2026 will begin on March 15. The new campaign places particular emphasis on carbon farming and new rules concerning afforestation commitments. The 300-hectare limit for farms applying for certain forms of support has been maintained, but new payment rates dependent on the application of pro-environmental practices have been introduced. Farmers must also prepare for an increase in contributions to the voluntary insurance in the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund (KRUS) and a hike in the mandatory agricultural fee from April 1. Eco-schemes are voluntary payment systems for farmers introduced under the new EU Common Agricultural Policy, designed to encourage the implementation of practices beneficial for the climate and environment. In addition to financial matters, March brings a reminder of the upcoming switch to daylight saving time. Although the rationale for this mechanism has been debated for years, in March 2026 Poles will once again move their clocks forward. In a broader legal perspective, it is worth noting the announcements of a revolution in enforcement proceedings planned for 2026, which is to expand the catalog of items exempt from seizure, protecting basic goods necessary for the debtor's functioning.
