The Spanish brand Cupra has unveiled a refreshed version of its first fully electric model, the Born. The modernization includes not only subtle visual changes to the body but, above all, significant technological improvements, including increased drive power and improved range on a single charge. The official launch of the new version in European markets is scheduled for summer 2026, which is a key element of the Martorell-based manufacturer's electrification strategy.
Launch in summer 2026
The official introduction of the refreshed Born model to European markets is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
Increased power and range
The modernization includes battery optimization and the introduction of more powerful electric units for sport versions.
New visual language
The car received headlights with a characteristic triangular motif, referencing the latest design language of the Cupra brand.
The Cupra brand has officially unveiled the second iteration of the Born model, which debuted in 2021 as the brand's first mass-produced electric car. The refreshed model, referred to as the "second act," emphasizes improving usability parameters and integration with the latest digital solutions from the Volkswagen Group. External changes focus on a new light signature with a three-triangle motif, intended to make the car resemble newer models in the lineup, such as the Tavascan or Terramar. However, engineers primarily focused on the powertrain, optimizing energy management software to extend the distance the vehicle can travel without needing to be plugged in. Under the hood of the new Cupra Born, we will find upgraded drive units with higher power, aimed at delivering an even more sporty driving experience, in line with the brand's DNA. The vehicle's interior has also undergone a transformation, receiving larger infotainment system screens and finish materials with a higher degree of environmental sustainability. The manufacturer states that the new generation of the multimedia system will operate faster and offer a more intuitive interface. These changes are intended to allow the Born to compete more effectively in the increasingly saturated segment of premium compact electric cars, where technological efficiency and charging speed are becoming key selection factors. The Cupra brand, spun off from SEAT in 2018, has become the growth engine for the Spanish conglomerate, focusing on emotional design and high performance, which allowed it to quickly build recognition in the challenging automotive market. As announced, the market launch of the refreshed Cupra Born will take place in summer 2026. This strategy involves the gradual phasing out of older versions in favor of the new specification, which is set to become the standard in sales showrooms. Industry analysts indicate that modernizing the Born model is a necessary step in the face of growing competition from Asian brands and the dynamic development of battery technology in Europe. Cupra plans to continue its global expansion, and the refreshed Born is to be the foundation of this sales push in Western European markets, where charging infrastructure is developing the fastest. Facelift of the Born model is also intended to demonstrate the brand's capabilities in terms of sporty electric performance. The VZ versions, characterized by the highest power, will receive additional improvements to the chassis and braking systems to meet the demands of drivers who value dynamic driving. Evolution of the Cupra Born model: Market launch date: 2021 → Summer 2026; Powertrain characteristics: Standard EV → Increased power and efficiency; User interface: 12-inch screen → New generation multimedia
