Local government authorities of the Pomeranian Voivodeship and the city of Wejherowo have reached an agreement to implement a key road investment. On February 24, a letter of intent was signed concerning the construction of the Nanice integration hub, with an estimated cost of 45 million złoty. Investments in road and rail infrastructure have been a priority of the European Union's cohesion policy for years. In Poland, following accession to the EU in 2004, funds for modernizing the transport network have significantly increased, which is intended to improve regional accessibility and economic competitiveness. The main goal of the project is to solve the communication problem in Wejherowo. The city is bisected by railway line No. 202 and voivodeship road No. 468, which hinders the free flow between its northern and southern parts. The new integration hub is to create a non-collision connection, eliminating the current difficulties. „Realizacja węzła integracyjnego Nanice będzie istotnym elementem rozwoju infrastruktury transportowej Wejherowa, zwiększając dostępność komunikacyjną miasta oraz poprawiając komfort i bezpieczeństwo.” (The implementation of the Nanice integration hub will be a significant element in the development of Wejherowo's transport infrastructure, increasing the city's communication accessibility and improving comfort and safety.) — Krzysztof Hildebrandt The investment includes the construction of an underpass beneath the tracks, new roads, sidewalks, and elements of small architecture. 45 mln zł — Estimated cost of hub constructionThe task's investor is Gmina Miasta Wejherowo. Funds for implementation will come from the budget of the Pomeranian Voivodeship and the city's treasury. It is assumed that construction work can commence after completing necessary procedures, such as obtaining permits and developing project documentation. Completion of the investment, and thus the handover of the hub for use, is planned in approximately three years. For residents, the project means a significant improvement in daily mobility and a reduction in the inconveniences associated with the current division of the city. This is a long-awaited investment that has a direct impact on the quality of life in the region.
